Job, Context, Rules, Output
Job is one line: what you want produced. Not background, not politeness. The task.
Context is what the agent needs to know to do the job your way: the client's situation, the attached file, your business. This is where the real leverage hides, because context can be durable. Write your practice into a file once, and every future agent reads it instead of you re-explaining your business in every prompt.
Rules are your guardrails. In a tax practice they do the heavy lifting: flag anything unclear instead of guessing, never promise refund outcomes, keep it under 150 words. Rules are how you make an agent careful.
Output is the exact shape you want back: a clean table, a subject line plus a short email, a spreadsheet plus a review list. Specify it and you stop reformatting AI answers by hand.
Four lines did a bookkeeping job
In the session, we proved the pattern live on real work: a bank export from a sole-prop stylist. The whole prompt was four short lines. Job: categorize this client's transactions. Context: the attached CSV, a Schedule C stylist, my rules. Rules: flag anything personal or unclear, do not guess. Output: a clean spreadsheet plus a needs-my-review list.
That is shorter than the email you would write to a human bookkeeper, and it came back as finished work with the judgment calls flagged for the professional. No essay required.
The same four parts upgrade everything: your marketing agent, your email assistant, your client messages. Once your context lives in files, most prompts you write for the rest of your career are four lines long.
